Forum is up again
I had to move the server that runs this forum over to a different building on the other side of town. It took a lot longer than I anticipated. I had to deal with some really complicated issues like permits, fiber, radios, new IP address blocks, etc. I didn't feel any huge urgency, because there aren't exactly a lot of people posting here. So, anyway, the forum is back up and running again, and I can't think of any reason why it would go down again for many years to come.

So you're self-hosting this on your own server? Why is there no https?

Because I'm extremely extremely busy. I'll get to it, but it doesn't seem like a priority. The internet worked just fine without it before.

As soon as it's enabled we should all change our passwords.

Do I really need SSL to protect my visitors username, password and email address?
You can probably get someone on Fiverr or Upwork to do it for $5-10.Yes, it is best practice to use SSL when you are collecting information from users. If you don't all your data will be visible in plain text and if someone is sniffing the connection, they will see everything.
As soon as it's enabled we should all change our passwords.
Re: Forum is up again
I added a certificate to one of my domains name a few weeks back, so it I can offer to do it. But all the co-ordination/access etc. that would be needed would not be over worth it is my guess.

There's nothing like credit card info, so I didn't think it mattered. But I now see that usernames and passwords could be intercepted, so it's very high priority for me. I would recommend not logging in with your password until we get this resolved. I've delegated it to my IT department, so it should only take a few days.

Security certificate was installed by my stellar IT department. Thank you!
