I just finished reading a book called Software by Rudy Rucker, which was written in 1982 about connectome scanning and memory transfer to robots.
It's a pretty prescient book I happened to find in my hackerspace while thinking about how all the copies of Fall; or, Dodge in Hell are checked out at the library...
A lot of fiction falls off me these days as a waste of time, but this book had a unique writing style that Rudy's termed transrealism that got me hooked.
Software (the book)
History of conceptions of computer afterlife?
I enjoyed reading Rudy Rucker's books Software and Wetware... but I'm gonna save Freeware for later in life as that one is notably longer looking.
Today I learned about the Leibniz medallion, Imago Creationis, which-far ahead of Rudy really (sorry)-was sketched by Leib in 1697 as a conception of binary's relation to 'the creation of existence'
